A Decade of Discoveries in High-Energy Physics

Europe/Brussels
Brussels Town Hall - Grand Place

Brussels Town Hall - Grand Place

Description

Curiosity drives us to explore the largest and smallest scales in our Universe. In the last ten years, our research made a major breakthrough on the smallest scales with the discovery of the Higgs boson and on the largest scales by using new messengers to study our Universe.

This opened a unique window for a decade of novel research on these fascinating phenomena. It is now time to celebrate these achievements and plan for the future. To this aim, we are organising an open symposium, involving

- renowned scientists: Bruce Allen (MPI, Hannover), Stan Bentvelsen (Nikhef), Daniela Bortoletto (University of Oxford), Livia Conti (INFN, Padua), François Englert (ULB), Christophe Grojean (DESY), Francis Halzen (University of Wisconsin, Madison), Antoine Kouchner (Université Paris-Cité, CNRS) and Paris Sphicas (University of Athens)

- academic institutions: Vincent Blondel (recteur de l'UCLouvain), Jan Danckaert (rector van VUB), Annemie Schaus (rectrice de l'ULB),  Herman Van Goethem (rector van UAntwerpen), Marius Gilbert (vice-recteur à la recherche et à la valorisation de l'ULB), Isabel Van Driessche (Dean of Faculty of Sciences at UGent)

- funding agencies: Véronique Halloin (Secrétaire générale du F.R.S.-FNRS) and Hans Willem (secretaris-generaal van FWO))

In parallel, an outreach village will be opened as the kick-off event for a series of outreach activities that will last several months and tour around Belgium.
