Description
Planar Silicon detectors allow today position measurements to a few micron precision, and time resolutions of the order of a few nanoseconds. New techniques using vertical electrodes allow to reduce the collection distance by one order of magnitude, providing better signal collection, timing performance and radiation hardness. With strip detectors, simulations predict that fast pulse sampling techniques and digital signal processing can determine time and charge more accurately compared to conventional analogue pulse processing. Examples of detectors and electronics designs for the next generation experiments are presented.
