The electroweak production of top quarks, also known as the single-top-quark process, has been observed in March 2009 by the two Tevatron experiments. In this talk we will present the current status and perspectives of single-top-quark physics at the Tevatron, and will briefly discuss some of the challenges to be encountered at the LHC.
