Description
The physics of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is presented, with particular emphasis on experimental results. The basic concepts used in interpreting data and some of the main problems encountered in this rapidly evolving field will be discussed. The experimental programme with ion beams at the LHC will also be introduced with a glimpse on the first results obtained from the recently achieved LHC collisions.
