Vibration measurements on the proton scale with compact devices

Description
Gravitational-wave detectors require extremely sensitive and compact sensors to detect and correct for seismic vibration. For future detectors and upgrades of current detectors, even the best commercial sensors do not comply with sensitivity requirements by several orders of magnitude. This is because the best commercial seismometers are designed to characterise the quietest places on Earth. However, our seismic attenuation systems make objects that move much less than Earth at frequencies where e.g. we would like to detect a black hole merger. I will give an overview of the custom sensors from the field, future directions and how they may be used in industry. Lastly, some science highlights that can be done in the gravitational-wave band enabled by the presented sensors (0.1 Hz - 5 Hz) are presented.
