Description
The talk will give a short overview of nuclear microprobes, world-wide trends, and a few examples. Nuclear microprobes are typically installed on good energy stability, high beam brightness machines (presently, the best choice seems to be the High Voltage Singletron machine), a number of laboratories use Tandetrons, or older Van de Graaffs. There are also high energy microbeams installed on cyclotrons.
Then the microbeam setup in ATOMKI will be described. There will be a summary of the analytical applications (PIXE, RBS, PIGE, DIGE, NRA, ERDA, STIM; environmental, biomedical, materials science and archaeological applications), and a bit more details on our applications on micromachining. Proton Beam Writing (also known as P-beam writing, or proton beam micromachining) has grown to a major application area of nuclear microprobes worldwide, and also in our laboratory.
The final part of the talk will present ion guiding experiments performed at ATOMKI using highly ordered nanocapillaries made at UCL/PCPM.
