Description
I will review the experimental foundations of the Standard Model of particle physics. I will shortly remind about the basic ideas and predictions of the Standard Model. I will then detail the experimental methods and observables used in high energy and low energy experiments, pertaining to the measurement of electroweak couplings. I will in particular concentrate on results about leptonic couplings and their structure. Most relevant data come from the LEP/SLC experiments, as far as electroweak neutral currents are concerned, and from lepton decay experiments as far as weak charged currents are concerned. I will finish by discussing strong couplings. In every step, I will confront experimental data and theoretical prediction to exemplify the dual approach characteristic for modern particle physics.
