Description

Equal opportunity is, especially in physics, an important topic, which is also reflected in the low percentage of female students starting a bachelor degree. In Germany this is usually around 15%.

In order to improve the percentage on all career levels, it is important to start already in high school. With this project the participants have the opportunity to do experiments, increase their interest in physics and build up networks during a four-day-workshop at the beginning of the school year. The offered physics projects are covering different research areas of physics like particle physics, laser physics, plasma physics or nano science.

To ensure good quality and to improve the project the workshop is accompanied by a survey consisting of three evaluations at different times. The concept of the project, the content and selected results of the survey will be presented.

This project won the equal opportunity prize of the University Hamburg in 2020 and is in the DFG standard toolset for equal opportunity work since 2015.
