Description
At the LHC, forward physics offers interesting potential if one can use very forward detectors. Unfortunately, because cross-sections are femtobarn-level, one have to be able to run these detectors at high luminosity, when overlap background (pileup) becomes a significant concern. In order to reduce this background, a timing detector prototype GASTOF was designed and manufactured at UCLouvain for the FP420 project. The talk will present the requirements for a timing detector at the LHC, as well as some outputs from our C++-based simulation code.
