Using Global SMEFT Fits to Constrain UV Models of New Physics

by Emma Geoffray (U. Heidelberg)

Description
An important question for both phenomenologists and experimentalists is whether one can put limits on UV model parameters by matching the UV theory onto the SMEFT. I will show that this is possible and explore the complementarity between SMEFT and model-specific approaches.
The first part of this talk will give a general introduction to global SMEFT fits (especially the SFitter framework) and how they are usually used to constrain new physics in a model independent way. Then, I will explore how model specific results can be obtained simply by matching the model onto the SMEFT. Finally, I will present results for the Heavy Vector Triplet extension of the Standard Model. In particular, I will focus on an additional theory uncertainty arising from the matching and discuss the complementarity of our results with direct searches.
