******** Paper abstract ********
We report on a study aiming at an early observation of tt production in the di-leptonic decay channel
with an electron and a muon in the final state, recorded by the CMS detector from pp collisions at a
center-of-mass energy of ps = 14 TeV.
We propose two analysis strategies which make a minimal use of the HCAL information in order
to be complementary to the standard approach based on calorimetric jets. These strategies rely on
the assumption of a good lepton identification and are made more or less inclusive according to the
stability and understanding of the different subdetectors. They are the “inclusive lepton method”,
where a tight lepton selection is applied assuming a good control of the fake lepton rate, and the
“track method”, where lepton selection cuts can be relaxed by means of using the Tracker information,
including track-jets. One shows that, without using b-tagging, both methods can reveal the tt process
with less than 10 pb1.
