Description
The clockwork mechanism is an elegant and economical way to generate small numbers or large hierarchies in a theory with only order-one couplings. I will introduce its key aspects by discussing clockwork dark matter as a working example. After presenting the related phenomenology I will also discuss the possible extra-dimensional setup from which the clockwork could emerge and the embedding of gravity in it, which provides a new mechanism to solve the hierarchy problem. Finally, I will discuss recent theoretical developments and the related debate in the community.
