CP3 lunch seminar : Nuclear interactions in the Tracker of CMS

Description
From the initial collisions at the center of CMS, a lot of particles will be emitted. These particles have a non-negligible probability to interact with material along their path. For instance, a pion with energy above 3 GeV has a probability up to 20 % to interact with material in the Tracker of CMS. As a consequence of those interactions, the tracks associated to the particles stop and do not reach the electromagnetic calorimeter. In general those uncompleted tracks will not be taken into account for physic analyses. In order to reduce the impact of those nuclear interactions on physic analyzes, an algorithm has been developed to identify them and to reconstruct the secondary tracks. The principle of the algorithm, its other purposes and the recent results on track reconstruction will be presented during the meeting.
