Description
The current searches for new heavy quarks at the LHC mostly ignore the option of long lifetimes. While a new chiral family of fermions is now strongly disfavoured from the recent LHC results, such a scenario remains of prime importance when considering extensions of the Standard Model involving vector-like quarks. In this context, we review the theoretical and experimental status of long-lived heavy quarks, and bound states thereof. If these particles propagate on large distances before their decay, they can give rise to signatures involving displaced vertices, heavy stable particles, or decays happening outside of the detector acceptance. As such specific signatures require dedicated search strategies, we present a reinterpretation of the existing results, as well as some of their current limitations.
