Description
This short talk will cover the NA62 (CERN) experiment, with focus on the GigaTracker (GTK) sub-detector.
The NA62 experiment expects to collect about 100 K+ -> pi+ nu nu events in two years in order to reduce the incertitude on the branching ratio below 10%. This will set new constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model. In addition, it will allow to extract the CKM matrix element Vtd independently on what has been done in the B mesons system.
The GTK sub-detector is built around three hybrid silicon pixel detectors, with some very strong requirements : a time resolution below 200 ps, a detection efficiency greater than 99% and low material budget. During my master's thesis I studied the performance of a GTK demonstrator. The main results were a time resolution of about 175 ps (Vbias = 300V) and an efficiency greater than 99.5%.
It is worth mentioning that silicon pixel detectors are becoming more and more important in medical imaging.
