Description
Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPCs), intensively used in HEP as gaseous charged particle detectors, in the last ten years have been rediscovered as biomedical gamma detectors for TOF-PET imaging (Time of Flight Positron Emission Tomography), thanks to their low cost and good time resolution.
An overview of the principles of this detection technique will be given and the first digital measurement of the time resolution for a 32 channels prototype (sigma 145 ps on photon pair) will be then presented.
