Description

The two-dimensional Coulomb gas gives the statistical mechanical bridge between classical potential theory and field theory, which appears when we study certain renormalized limits as the number of particles increases indefinitely. We overview some basic features of the Coulomb gas. As an illustration, we will briefly discuss some recent results in the regime when the Coulomb droplet becomes disconnected.
