Following the resounding success of the LHC Run 1 and 2, a vigorous programme of upgrade of the accelerator chain is in full swing. This is the first step in view of the planned high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC), which is scheduled to be implemented around 2025. In this talk I will review the upgrade programme at CERN, discussing the performance expectations and presenting also the long-tern options for CERN.
